Turon


Ingredients

  • 3 ripe saba bananas cut into 12 slices
  • 1 c or ½ (20 oz) can of jackfruit cut into strips
  • ½ c dark brown sugar packed
  • 12 individual spring roll wrappers
  • Bowl of water for sealing wrappers
  • Neutral cooking oil for frying, vegetable oil preferred
  • For aramel coating: ½ c white sugar

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut saba banana into (12) even slices and slice jackfruit into strips
  2. Put dark brown sugar in shallow plate and pre-peel individual spring roll wrappers and cover them with a damp cloth
  3. Use either basic-egg roll or one-roll technique
  4. Fill pan with vegetable oil (350 °F) until 2 inches high and deep fry turon until golden brown
  5. For cameral coating: in saucepan (medium-low heat) add white sugar as it melts until sugar is light golden brown then remove pan from heat. Put caramel on turon (either via tongs or drizzle).
